  • Dough
  • 350 g flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 225 g butter soft
  • 200 g sugar
  • 1 package vanilla sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 orange zest
  • 4 tbsp orange juice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Topping
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1/2 orange zest
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  1. 4tbsp orange juice • 100g butter
    Bring the orange juice to a boil, remove from the heat and stir in 100g butter. Set aside to cool.
  2. 125g butter • 200g sugar • 1 egg yolk
    Cream together the rest of the butter and the sugar. Add the egg yolk and orange butter and mix for 3 minutes.
  3. 350g flour • 1tsp baking powder • 2tbsp poppy seeds • 1package vanilla sugar • 1 orange (zest) • 1 pinch salt
    Add the flour, baking powder, poppy seeds, vanilla sugar, zest and salt and knead into a coherent dough.
  4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 180°C.
  5. 50g sugar • 1/2 orange (zest) • 1tbsp poppy seeds
    Combine the topping ingredients in a small bowl.
  6. Form walnut-sized balls, flatten them to 0.5cm thickness and press them into the topping mixture. Place on a parchment lined baking tray. Sprinkle any remaining mixture over the cookies.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  8. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
